Halloween Decorations

Here it is just Sept. 07th and we are already starting to pull out the indoor Halloween decor! We have a huge desk system set up here that's shaped like a big "O" with a section missing to enter through. We are going to set up our LeMax Halloween village all the way around the whole top of the office area since the top of the desks all the way around. It's a big space and we have a ton of pieces so we should be able to cover most of the top. We have also decided to leave it up year round. More dusting but hey, it'll look great and this is where we are most of the time so why not leave it out to enjoy all year long?

We now have a permanent Scarecrow in our front yard, after we started doing a "Raising of the Scarecrow" ritual but we decided to leave him up this past year and he needs some work. A new hat since the old one faded in the desert sun. And his stuffing needs repacking and refilling after last winter's rain. But he still looks pretty cool hanging up there year round like he's protecting our yard and home.

We have so many boxes of Halloween decorations, I don't know what all we'll put up yet but we've decided to put them up in September and leave them up until Thanksgiving so we can enjoy them a bit more. We found a huge box filled with Halloween lights, orange, purple, candy corn colored. We may put some up on the outside of the house this year and inside as well. We always keep a black lace mantel curtain on our fireplace. It has spiders and web shapes woven into it. Then we put up a string of LED lit pumpkins and bats but the bats burned out within a week. Have to look for a new set of those!

Anyway, that's it so far, we'll keep you up-dated with the decorating for Halloween 2011 as it goes up!

Well, it's September 1st and we start doing our decorating around the house about now. We actually put a few Halloween things out a couple weeks ago. The temperature gets cooler and we start to feel in more of a Fall mood so we've been going out to our storage container early in the mornings and sorting through the Halloween decorations to put up this year both inside and out.

We've been checking some retail stores and so far only Michael's Arts & Crafts has the Halloween stuff out. I must admit that they don't have the selection that they usually have but maybe that was because we were looking so early. We went to two different ones in town. One store had a tiny amount, the other had a bit more. We picked up some new decor for around the house like some resin cast Jack-O-Lanterns with sayings on them and some wooden wall plaques with cute stiff like a Witch's To-Do List.

We also bought stuff for making some craft projects, too. I always love making things for around the house. I need to put together some new Halloween wreaths, a couple pumpkin dioramas and set up a scene for our ever growing LeMaxx Spookytown collection.

Try this new website, HalloweenDecorations101.com for some great ideas! It's a new site that is very informative and has some great stuff on it that should inspire you!

Did you know that the whole retail business for Halloween is already set at this time of year? Just like the Fashion Week celebrations going on in New York and Paris at this time of year, the Halloween, Costume & Party conventions are going on during February & March. These are trade shows meant for retailers, those in the haunt industry and Halloween store owners so that they can see what's new for 2010 and then place their orders.

The new costumes, decorations, home decor, yard settings, you name it, it's all there for them to see. We used to go to the shows every year since one was based in Las Vegas but they decided not to hold it here this year. We've been to the big Chicago show in the past and it was great and it was HUGE!!

The point is, soon we'll have news for you on what's hot for Halloween decorations this coming season so you can plan now on what you want to pick up! But for now, you can browse Halloween Online and The Yard Haunter for ideas to keep you busy.

This year we have decided to make some new decorations for Halloween since everything has gotten so darned expensive and money is tight this year. Oh wait, the economy is all better, I forgot! Yeah, right and monkeys might fly outta my a*s......never mind. Anyway, we'll be making some new Halloween wreaths, some pumpkin dioramas using faux pumpkins, Halloween jewelry and some heavy duty things like coffin stands for our coffins and some outdoor props. But the main concern here, since I'm writing this is crafting. I leave most of the heavy outdoor stuff to the husband.

You can find a lot of good ideas at Halloween Online in the Craft section. They have added new craft ideas for this year to try out. I want to make a couple GoogleEye t-shirts just to wear around town. I have the things I need to make a Halloween charm bracelet and matching earrings. If you have any knowledge of jewelry making, these things are easy to do. Even if you don't have a clue, you can still do them with a few simple things picked up at Wal-mart or Michael's Arts & Crafts.

For the house I want to make a few dioramas using faux pumpkins and a bunch of miniature pieces of LeMax Halloween Village things that I bought on sale at Michael's. I'm the most anxious about these! I'll be creating tiny little scenes inside these fake pumpkins and I can leave them out all year long if I want to! Little Halloween universes all created by me!! You can find the info on making them here in the Halloween Online Halloween Craft section.

That part of the site, alone, should keep you busy and creative for weeks! I know that I'm happiest when I'm making something useful, beautiful and something that my family will treasure for years to come! Craft on!!

We are still looking for some unique ideas for decorating our home this Halloween. You kind of go through moods, you feel like working on stuff and then you don't. With summer starting here, the last thing you think about is Halloween. But it's a never ending task, coming up with new ideas for home decor and things to do to the front of the house.
This year we may try some window silhouettes. They look pretty cool, you cut out black silhouettes and use a sheet behind them so light can come through, making a solid black silhouette of what ever you cut out. I saw an article that talks about maing them at Halloween Online in the Halloween Crafts section. It doesn't sound too hard to do.
There are some new craft articles there, lots of new ideas for this years Halloween crafting! Since I love to make things, it should be a good year this year!

I find that if I start early in the year, I have much more time to decide what I want to add to the Halloween decorations for this year. Both inside and out, we love to decorate about October 1st and really have it all going by the middle of the month. Starting early gives you time to plan and if you need to make any of the things you want yourself, you have plenty of time to craft them. I love craft projects so I start working on Halloween and Christmas ideas early!
I noticed that our local Wal-mart seems to be getting rid of many of their craft items so I've been picking things up at low prices. Always look for sales at stores like Michael's and other craft stores and hit the after Halloween sales to stock up on things that you'll need for the coming year. I'm so sick of hearing about the sad state of our economy, I kind of feel like the media created it themselves by trying to scare the public, but a sale is a sale and if I can save on things that I need for crafting, I will. I've always done it, no need to stop now!
I'm not sure on what I'm planning for this year, I like to take a look at Halloween Online's craft section and decorating section for inspiration when I'm lost for ideas. I also like The Yard Haunter, a site completely dedicated to haunting your front yard for Halloween.
We really want to make this Halloween a special one since it will be our 25th wedding anniversary, one that we won't soon forget! More on our ideas as they take form!

We've been busy at work putting together Halloween crafts, such as wreaths for Halloween and making some Autumn wreaths for friends and family. We've also been hitting some of the stores like Michael's and Target who have already marked down most of the Halloween stock. We picked up some great additions to add to our in-door and out-door Halloween decor. Picked up some Halloween baking supplies as well, decorations, a black wire tiered cupcake holder, some chocolate melts for making Chocolate Ghosts and Monsters and some other cool stuff. Halloween is almost here, it has snuck up so fast, we'll never get everything done!
